How GeoDigg works

One event, many voices

A road closure might be covered by three news outlets, posted by the transportation agency and photographed by people nearby. GeoDigg shows that as one event with every source attached, instead of five near-identical headlines.

  1. Reports come in

Local news, official notices and community updates from people who are there.

  2. It is placed on the map

Each report is matched to the most precise place the evidence supports: a city, a county or a whole state. Never more precise than the facts.

  3. Reports become an event

Reports about the same real occurrence are grouped together, with each original source kept and credited.

  4. People weigh in

Neighbors add updates and photos, ask questions and dig the stories that matter. Post a report.

  5. Local stories can rise

An event that matters locally can climb from its city to its county, its state and beyond, so small towns are not drowned out.

Trust, sources and places

Know where every story comes from

Every report on GeoDigg keeps a label showing what kind of source it is. GeoDigg's own name never replaces the original source.
